FPFA Monthly Insights - Caretaker Information (November 2025)

Good Afternoon and Happy Thanksgiving,

I've long considered sending a monthly communication and had doing so on the 2026 agenda but expedited the goal when I came across the attached information from Voya in recognition of November being National Caregiver Month. Who knew?  My focus has been on mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie and contemplating when to start listening to holiday music.

I believe the attached to be relevant along the spectrum of our clientele as it seems almost everyone is in a caretaking circumstance or knows someone who is.  The phenomenon of the ‘sandwich generation’ is well publicized as longevity has led to adult children caring for both their parents and their children.  It goes well beyond that though as people experience situations of only caring for parents or children, caring for spouses or significant others, caring for extended family, being a sole caregiver, navigating caregiving in a blended family, etc.

Honestly, my greatest education in this arena comes from the personal ‘school of hard knocks’ more so than my CFP designation or industry licensing.  I invite you to discuss these articles and to consider how you may respond to a present situation or more ideally be proactive for anything that could arise.

Please find attached at the bottom of the page:

  • Am I a Caregiver. Basic overview of what qualifies one as a caregiver.

  • AARP NAFC Report. A thorough review of caregiving trends and data points.

  • Family Meeting Checklist. A topical list of discussion points to guide a family conversation around caregiving.  Please know that Front Porch Financial has produced a lot of similar content available by request.

  • Employed Caregiver. Workplace issues for the caregiver.

  • Employment Extenders. Additional workplace data.

MONTHLY NEWSLETTER PLAN

Front Porch Financial Advisory (FPFA) has been hesitant to send regular mass communications due to 1) eschewing the typical advisor route of sending out ghost written content, and 2) not wanting to fill client inboxes with further clutter as we all have enough already.

That said, my various providers and industry news sources regularly create wonderful content that I believe to be worthwhile at the individual level.  Going forward you should expect to get information monthly that pertains to a topic relevant to all or most of us (e.g. caregiving, taxes or charitable gifting) or a product/service that may be relevant to you but is not in itself a recommendation.

Regarding the product/service aspect of it ---- one goal as an advisor is to protect your clients from all the rubbish that the financial services industry throws our way, e.g. the ‘next big idea!’ or ‘5 things you should be doing right now!’ hype.  Still, we should introduce topics or services that we feel may benefit you.  Again, such introduction is not a recommendation of the product, service, or firm that wrote the content -but it is a welcoming of conversation and exploration.

Despite the intention of curating relevant material, not every newsletter will apply to you specifically since these are sent out in mass.  I apologize in advance for that and request that you send me inquiries to discuss 1:1 and/or that you think may be worthwhile for the good of the group.

In closing, this is a time of reflection and gratitude.  Please know I cherish everyone in my Front Porch Financial family.  You are all very special and I am blessed to be able to work with you.

Best,

Geoff
